John R. Owens, M.D.
Dr. John R. Owens was born in Bakersfield at Frieses Maternity Home and except for college and medical school, he has continued to reside in Bakersfield and has been in Obstetrics and Gynecology practice here since 1979. He attended Loma Linda University where he received his M.D. degree and then returned to Bakersfield, where he started an Internal Medicine Internship. He had the chance to change to Obstetrics and Gynecology after his first year, and finished his residency in December of 1978, and has continued in the practice of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He has been the Chair of the OB/GYN committee at Memorial Hospital and San Joaquin Hospital, and presently Chairs the Surgery Supervisory Committee at San Joaquin Hospital. He is Board Certified in OB/GYN, and was recertified in 1995.

Laura Walters, RN, FNP
  
Laura became a Registered Nurse in 1982 when she graduated from Bakersfield College with an Associate in Science Degree in Nursing. Since then she has worked as a nurse in our office as well as local hospital Labor and Delivery and Emergency departments. She completed her Bachelor of Science Degree at California State University Dominguez Hills in 1994 and went on to become a member of the first graduating class of Nurse Practitioners at California State University Bakersfield in 1998, where she also completed her Master of Science in Nursing Degree. Her graduate education focus was on Family Practice, but her extensive obstetric and gynecologic experience makes her an ideal nurse practitioner for our office. Laura has a national certification in Inpatient Obstetrics and is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, California Coalition of Nurse Practitioners, Association for Women's Health, Obstetric, and National Nurses, and Sigma Theta Tau, an international nursing honor society.
Audrey Cochran, RN, MS
Audrey Cochran graduated from the Stanford University nursing program, and was the second person to receive a Master of Science degree in nursing from CSUB. She is nationally certified both as a continence care nurse, and as a clinical specialist in gerontological nursing. The oldest person she has helped with bladder problem was 97, but Audrey also works with children. She is vendorized by Kern Regional Center to work with caregivers of their clients on toilet training. She frequently speaks to community groups on "Who's the Boss, You or Your Bladder" and has been a presenter at national conferences. Her articles on this subject have been published in professional journals and speciality newsletters. She has been manager of the continence rehabilitation program at this office since 1995.

Rosie Pitts, LVN
Advice Nurse

Rosie has worked at our office for 9 years as the advise Nurse. She graduated from BC Allied Health Nursing program.. Her vast hospital experience has proven to be critial for the care of our patients. Rosie can calm a nervous new mom or carefully relieve a post surgical patient fears. She is dedicated, caring and compassionate, and gives each patient her full time and attention.
Rachel Gonzales
Business Office Administrator.

Rachel is a graduate of Shafter High School. She first worked for an Opthamology group, then got her real estate lisence. Once she got into the medical profession, she found she truly loved working in the field and has been with us for over 15 years. Rachel is the doctor's right hand person and keeps the office operating smoothly so they don't have that "extra" worry.
Amanda Castillo
Patient Coordinator

Amanda is also a graduate of Shafter High School and has worked for us for over 8 years. She has the difficult job of keeping all 3 of our doctor and both of the NP/PA's schedules on track. She is the ever cheerful voice who understands your concerns for getting in to see your doctor as soon as possible and will work with your schedule to assist you to that end.
Angelina Flores
Medical Assistant

"Angie" has been a part of our office for over 14 years. During this time she has been Dr. Owens' primary Medical Assistant and as such has a vast knowledge of his patients needs and concerns. During in office procedures, Angie is not only there to assist the doctor but is there to help you understand your procedure and give you the support and understanding that only she can.
Diana Ripepi
Ultra Sonographer

Diana got her degree in Ultrasound from Bakersfield College and has the respect and admiration of Bakersfield's finest MDs. It is her job to take the very best Ulrasound pictures possible so that your doctor can evaluate and diagnosis your tests. Diana has caring and compassion that goes beyond her job,she brings a high degree of professionalism to our office.
Nisreen Yusufali
Medical Assistant

Nisreen has been with us for three years now. She moved here from Kenya where she worked as an RN, Mid-Wife. She graduated from San Joaquin Valley College with her Medical Assistant certificate. She is a great asset to our practice since she speaks several languages including Hindi, Punjabi and German.

 
Virginia Esparza

Patient Coordinator

Virginia was a student at our office from SJVC. She was hired six years ago because in her, we saw the talent and desire to help patients that we were looking for. Virginia is currently working as a Patient Coordinator. She is bi-lingual so she is a very busy team player. Virgina is due to give birth to her 5th child in October, and we'll have the nursey set up for her return!
Bianka Alcazar

Front Office Supervisor

Bianka is a recent transplant from the Orange County area and comes to us with lots of front office experience.   She has the caring and compassionate personality that our patients have come to know and expect from us.  We know that you, as one for our valued patients, will come to rely on her knowledge and expertise just as we have.
